The one day off
The obvious answer, and the one everybody asks for. Which is precisely why the slots go first and why booking a weekend late is the commonest reason somebody ends up moving on a day that does not suit them.
Everybody wants Saturday. That is the whole problem with Saturday.
What a weekend move involves
Book it before anything else
Weekend capacity is finite and it fills further ahead than any other slot. If your move has to happen on a Saturday, that is the first thing to sort out and everything else can be arranged around it.
Where the date depends on a completion that has not exchanged, we will hold the slot provisionally rather than take money against it. That costs you nothing and it keeps the option alive.
What the building may say
This is the constraint people do not expect. Managed blocks around the station and the canal frequently set permitted move hours, and a number exclude Sundays or weekends entirely — which makes the one day you have unavailable at the one place you are going.
Ask the managing agent the week you sign a tenancy or exchange on a purchase. It is a short email and it is the single most useful thing you can do early.
Parking does not take the weekend off
Controlled parking zones around Botwell and the town centre operate at weekends too, and a bay suspension has the same lead time whatever day it covers. Where one is needed, it is applied for in advance.
The advantage nobody mentions
Everybody is available. On a weekday move one person runs the whole thing around work; on a Saturday there is usually somebody to answer the door at the far end, somebody to take the children, and somebody to make a decision without a phone call.

01 How far ahead should we book a Saturday?
As soon as you have any kind of date, even a provisional one. It is the scarcest slot and the one most often unavailable at short notice.
02 Can you do Sundays?
Often, though more buildings restrict Sundays than Saturdays. Check with the managing agent at both ends before assuming it.
03 What if our date is not confirmed yet?
We hold the slot provisionally and take nothing until it firms up. We would rather do that than have you commit money to a date that may move.
04 Is a weekend more expensive?
The quotation reflects the day and states it before you book. Demand rather than difficulty is what makes weekends the scarce slot.
05 Does a weekend move still need a parking suspension?
In a controlled zone, yes, and with the same lead time. The restrictions do not take the weekend off.
06 What if the weekend is genuinely impossible?
Then an early start or an evening on a weekday is usually the answer, and both are proper services here rather than favours.
When can you actually be there?
Both addresses and the shift pattern rather than a date. We will hold a slot against the rota and firm it up when the roster lands.
